Welcome To The TV Zone!
Welcome! I'm Noah, and I love to talk about television! Countless hours go into making just 30 minutes to an hour of television with several producers, writers, and editors at the helm.
The first television show that I fell in love with was "Gilmore Girls", a show that aired on the WB/CW from 2000 to 2007. It was about a single mother, Lorelai Gilmore, played by Lauren Graham ("Parenthood") raising her smart-as-a-whip 16-year-old daughter, Rory, played by Alexis Bledel ("The Handmaids Tale") in their small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut.
When Lorelai wants to send Rory to a prestigious college prep school in Hartford but doesn't have the money to pay the tuition, she's forced to enlist the help of her well-to-do parents, Richard and Emily and is sucked back into a world she'd worked so hard to get away from after getting pregnant at the age of 16. As the seasons went on, I became invested in the lives of Lorelai, Rory, Emily, and Richard and the wacky residents of Stars Hollow. I became invested in the choices they made and the relationships they had. I'd love to read message boards and watch people speculate about where the story was going next.
As I got older, I realized that why these conversations enthralled me so much was that television allows us a view into our own lives. In every story, there's something that the audience can latch onto. Like Lorelai, I want to live my life free from someone else's expectations.
It doesn't matter if the story isn't entirely relatable to every audience member's point-of-view; for example, I love "Breaking Bad", but I'm not a 50-year old cancer-surviving chemistry teacher who sells crystal meth. At the same time, as a twentysomething who's looking to make something of himself, I can understand the fear that I'll have to settle for mediocrity.
So, this blog will be an exploration of what television can teach us about ourselves, or at the very least, what television teaches me about myself. I'll be covering one show, week by week.
The first show I’ll be watching is...... to be announced.
